Dr Brett Hughes has 40 experience in transport strategy, policy, regulation, planning, design, technology, advocacy, research and operations. After ‘retiring’, Brett established P7Safety for advocacy, consulting and research into road safety and resilient transport solutions. Brett is enthusiastic about using systems approaches to improve transport for the future which is difficult and unpredictable.
Brett has authored over 40 papers on road safety and other transport topics. Brett was awarded a PhD for his thesis, A Comprehensive Framework for Future Road Safety Strategies, which has been widely downloaded and cited internationally. Previously, Brett held senior executive and management positions in policy and planning in the Department of Transport, the Curtin-Monash Accident Research Centre, the Australasian Railway Association, Main Roads WA and has worked as a principal consultant covering all aspects of transport including road, rail and aviation safety.
